LANAP in Portland
Get the latest in gum disease treatment. Portland Periodontics is proud to offer LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) protocol — a laser-based surgical treatment for periodontal disease. Our patients love LANAP because it’s less invasive than traditional surgery, and can result in faster healing times with less discomfort.
LANAP treatment targets the source of inflammation in the gums without harming or removing healthy gum tissue. Portland Periodontics uses LANAP to slow or stop attachment loss and decrease pocket depth. No cutting, no stitches.
Portland Gum Surgery
LANAP is gaining popularity because it’s quick and thorough—with short recovery times:
LANAP is much less invasive than traditional techniques. No cutting or stitching of the gums. This laser-assisted technique can result in less pain, bleeding, and discomfort.
LANAP patients typically experience speedier healing times than those who undergo traditional gum surgery. Recovery times vary by patient.
LANAP is designed to preserve as much healthy tissue as possible, which can lead to better long-term outcomes. The high-tech laser differentiates between healthy and unhealthy tissues.
LANAP is FDA-approved as a highly effective treatment for periodontal disease and can help prevent tooth loss. In addition, LANAP patients see less bleeding, sensitivity, gum loss, swelling, and post-operative infections.
LANAP is a comfortable procedure as it does not require scalpels or sutures. No sedation is required.
LANAP may not be suitable for everyone, so it’s important to consult with a periodontist to determine if LANAP is the best treatment for your specific case. At Portland Periodontics, we want all of our patients to be well-informed about every aspect of their care.
What to Expect
When you get LANAP in Portland, you can expect the following steps:
Dr. Goldwyn, your Portland periodontist, will conduct a comprehensive examination to determine if LANAP is the best treatment option for your specific case.
First, Dr. Goldwyn will make sure you’re comfortable, and numb the treatment area with a local anesthetic. During the LANAP procedure, he’ll use a laser to remove diseased tissue and bacteria from the periodontal pockets. He will also use the laser to stimulate the growth of new bone and tissue. The procedure typically takes 1-2 hours.
After the procedure, you can expect some swelling, soreness, and bleeding, but these symptoms should subside quickly. Our office team will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for yourself at home during the recovery period.
You will have follow-up appointments to monitor your healing and progress. We may also recommend additional treatment or therapy to help maintain your periodontal health. Keeping up your oral hygiene with regular brushing and flossing is a must.
Post-Surgical Care
After your LANAP, you should be able to go about your day normally with little pain and no stitches to worry about. Recovery time is much faster than traditional gum surgery, but recovery and healing time will vary from person to person.
You’ll get clear instructions from Portland Periodontics about recovery from LANAP. Take any prescribed medications according to directions, and don’t do any vigorous physical activity for a few hours after the procedure. You’ll be asked to stick to a liquid diet for about 24 hours, and a soft diet (think eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, pureed soup, ice cream, etc.) for up to a week.
Soon, you’ll be back to your old self again, with little soreness
